Commons and uncommons I like from Duskmourn!

Unwanted remake
1 year ago - N/A
Today: $0.53
WOTC keeps trying to push the envelope when it comes to printing white removal spells while making sure they do not power creep out Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile. I have seen a variety of takes online discussing Unwanted Remake, ranging from calling it trash to being an auto include. I land somewhere closer to having it be an auto-include. I do think that it is an extremely powerful removal spell, but destroy is not as good as exile. People may complain that the downside is so bad that it renders Unwanted Remake unplayable, since it can cheat into play some big creatures for your opponents. However, I actually do not believe this is worth worrying about at all! Say they do put an Eldrazi titan face down. They still have to pay its mana cost to turn it face up, and it does not get either the cast trigger nor any enters triggers. At least for me, I'll be putting this in any deck that needs efficient creature removal.
Types of decks to put it in
- Decks looking for efficient creature removal
Insidious Fungus
1 year ago - N/A
Today: $0.25
Insidious Fungus is some hybrid of Collective Resistance meets Growth Spiral meets Neverwinter Dryad. I love modal spells and the situational flexibility they offer. Miss a land drop? Maybe this will draw you into one. Need to destroy an artifact or enchantment? 3 mana is a pretty good rate!
Types of decks to put it in
- Mono green
- Flexible removal or ramp
Demonic Counsel
1 year ago - N/A
Today: $2.96
In the early game, Demonic Counsel is only good in a Demon oriented deck. In the late game however, this is a Demonic Tutor as your graveyard will likely be filled up with at least a land, creature, instant, and sorcery. For only $3, this is a great budget tutor.
Types of decks to put it in
- Decks that want a budget Demonic Tutor
Hauntwoods Shrieker
1 year ago - N/A
Today: $3.10
Hauntwoods Shrieker is an auto-include in any morph/disguise/face-down creature deck. My take is that it is also good in any deck where the goal is to cheat big creatures into play. There are very few cards that turn face-down permanents face up for less than the creature's mana cost, so for 5 mana (and some top deck manipulation) this is another way to cheat into play something big.
Types of decks to put it in
- Cheat big creatures into play
- Morph/disguise/cloak/manifest
Grab the Prize
1 year ago - N/A
Today: $0.09
Grab the Prize is a power-crept Tormenting Voice due to its one generic and one red mana cost, instead of two red, and the tacked on damage ability. Do not forgot about that damage, as it easily enables commanders that trigger when your opponents are dealt non-combat damage.
Types of decks to put it in
- Mono red decks for card draw
- Decks that enjoy dealing non-combat damage
End step
Having played Duskmourn sealed recently, I can say that it is a more powerful set than I think people originally gave it credit. There are lots of cards that can easily slot into decks, and the mechanics are not parasitic (aka cards from Duskmourn are not only good with other cards from Duskmourn). WOTC was onto something when it increased the playability of commons and uncommons in Play boosters (though they still should decrease the price of boxes)!
