Weekly Recs - 11/04/24
Don't buy the Marvel versions of these cards, get the cheaper ones instead!
Weekly Recs
Highlighting five cards that could be worth picking up. (Note: These are sent to subscribers first and then posted a week later)
All of the cards featured this week will be reprinted in the upcoming Marvel Secret Lair Super drop. It is highly likely these versions will become the most sought after, and therefore expensive, variants of these cards. I predict that people will sell off their "regular" copies to get enough cash to buy the new ones. The market will then see a slight influx of copies, which may cause the price to drop (not a ton, but some) on the regular variants as people try to offload them quickly. This week and the next, keep an eye out on these cards and their prices!
Yes, some of these cards are expensive. But whenever new, more desirable variants come onto the market, it is a good time to monitor the prices of other variants and pick them up when they are at a lower price.
Note: All of my predicted prices are truly a gut feeling not based on any fact 🤣
Jeska's Will
1 year ago - $22.44
Today: $18.35
Predicted Price: $15.00
Jeska's Will is one the best red spells every printed. If you have your commander out, for just three mana it is equivalent to drawing three cards and generating between 4-7 red mana on average. Three mana to draw three cards is better than the classic blue Divination, and three mana to generate about 5 is a Seething Song. Jeska's will combines them both.
Types of decks to put it in
- Any deck with red. It is that good.
The Ozolith
1 year ago: $26.41
Today: $32.01
Predicted price: $28.00
The perfect turn 1 play in a +1/+1 counters deck, The Ozolith saves all of your counters that you worked so hard to put on creatures. Whenever a creature leaves play on your field, it stores up the counters. Then at the beginning of combat, it puts all of those counters onto a single creature. Do this with a creature that has trample, and you are cracking back for a ton of damage.
Types of decks to put it in
- +1/+1 counters
Inventor's Fair
1 year ago: $11.32
Today: $13.65
Predicted price: $10.00
I often forget about the life gain ability of Inventor's Fair, but it can oddly be relevant the longer a game goes on.
The real reason why you play this land is that for 5 mana (4 to tap and activate, and sacrificing Inventor's Fair itself), you can tutor any artifact into your hand. Are there better artifact tutors? Sure. But as a utility land, which can slot into any deck, it lets you grab the exact piece you need.
Types of decks to put it in
- Artifacts
Primal Vigor
1 year ago: $4.90
Today: $8.02
Predicted price: $3.00
The downside to Primal Vigor is that it is symmetrical, meaning your opponents also get twice as many tokens and +1/+1/ counters. However, compared to Doubling Season, Primal Vigor, most of the time, will help you more than your opponents.
Types of decks to put it in
- +1/+1 counters
- Tokens
Heroic Intervention
1 year ago: $6.82
Today: $10.15
Predicted price: $8
Last week I wrote about budget replacements for Teferi's Protection. Heroic Intervention did not make the list because it is above the $10 limit. But if I had no limit, Heroic Intervention would have ranked higher than every other card on that list, except maybe Flare of Fortitude. Even then, one green pip makes Heroic Intervention easier to cast than the double white pips of Flare of Fortitude.
Of the 5 cards listed here, if you do not own a Heroic Intervention, this would be my pick to scope out first. It slots into any deck so easily and is extremely powerful.
Types of decks to put it in
- Any deck with green and lots of permanents
End step
I REALLY hope this upcoming Secret Lair drop is easily accessible for everyone and does not sell out instantly. It angers me when bots and scalpers take away the fun from people who actually want to purchase and play with these cards (myself included). On the other hand, at least Secret Lairs like this get more copies onto the market, thereby reducing the price tag on less desirable artworks. So strike when the iron is hot in the upcoming weeks!
